Hypnotherapy

What is Hypnotherapy?

You Are Already an Expert

You have already experienced hypnosis many times. Think of those moments when you are completely immersed in a book, captivated by music, or deeply focused while driving, feeling so absorbed that you barely notice the outside world.

Hypnotherapy is simply the therapeutic re-creation of hypnosis, this natural, trance-like state. Your attention and focus become deeply inward, allowing you to access a powerful part of yourself: the unconscious mind and your imagination. Because this state is effortless and natural, you are already very familiar with it.

Hypnosis is a powerful tool that enhances communication—both between you and your therapist, and between you and your own unconscious mind. While in this deeply relaxed state, your unconscious becomes highly receptive and active.

How Can Hypnotherapy Help Me?

Think of your unconscious as a treasure chest: a vast trove of creativity, resourcefulness, insight and possibility. Because this part of you is so receptive, the hypnotic state is highly beneficial for therapy. It allows you to process emotions and thoughts, explore new understandings, and accept positive suggestions with greater ease than conscious effort alone. This enables deep, lasting change to occur—emotionally, cognitively, somatically and behaviourally —in service of your goals.

Numerous studies confirm that hypnotherapy can amplify the effectiveness of therapy. For example, it can enhance your ability to connect with your own resources, capabilities, self-belief, ability to cope and create solutions. In turn this can have a powerful impact on how you think, feel and behave, and where you want to be in life with yourself and others.

However, hypnosis is a technique, not a cure. Research consistently shows that the single most important factor in successful therapy is the quality of the relationship between client and therapist. For this reason, I use hypnosis as a powerful tool only when it is grounded in our strong therapeutic relationship to maximise its effectiveness. This is where you benefit significantly from my training in Psychotherapy and the skill required to develop and nurture this positive relational foundation.

Beyond Hypnotherapy: A Richer Approach

For many clients, hypnotherapy will be what enables them to to get to where they need. However, for some clients being able to have the option to work deeper might be more helpful.

As a trainee psychotherapist, you benefit from a significantly broader, more flexible way of working. This means we can intentionally and seamlessly integrate a wider range of psychotherapeutic techniques, using these within hypnosis, or sometimes as a stand-alone talking-therapy approach.

Our work is never about fitting you to a technique but instead ensures your therapeutic journey is driven by your unique needs. It is truly bespoke, always prioritising what will benefit you the most, with a solid client-therapist relationship at the centre of what we do.

A Few Common Questions Around Hypnosis

Is hypnosis something that is done to me?

No. Hypnosis is always a collaborative process; we do it together. It is successful because you choose to do it and are willing to engage.

Am I in control?

You remain in full control throughout the entire process, just as you do when daydreaming or engrossed reading a book. We only proceed with your consent and align hypnosis with your aims for therapy. As an accredited Hypnotherapist, I am your trained guide, helping to create the conditions conducive to hypnosis while supporting you through the experience.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no prescribed length of time. We will discuss this in your initial session, as the duration depends entirely on your unique needs, goals and situation. We will regularly review our progress, as my ultimate aim is to support you until you no longer need therapy.
